Overview

Insulin-resistance is associated with obesity and type-2 diabetes. It is caused by a combination of environmental and genetic factors. The study of gene regulation can help understand how biological mechanisms are disrupted in the relevant tissues and potentially identify new markers of the disease to develop therapies in the future.

Dr. Khamis holds a research associate position at the European Institute of Genomics of Diabetes at the University of Lille where she is a member of a team focusing on the metabolic functional genomics and their abnormalities in type 2 diabetes and related disorders. Dr. Khamis is also a visiting researcher at Imperial college London. In this webinar, Dr Khamis presents her work on integration of methylation and transcriptomic data and demonstrates the value of a holistic, non-biased multi-omics approach in identifying candidate genes.
