Dr Gulmira Kalmambetova
Deputy Head of the National TB Program
National Center of Phthisiology under the Ministry of Health, the Kyrgyz Republic
Prior to assuming her current position, she served as the Head of the National Reference Laboratory of NTP, where she led the laboratory diagnostics of TB by conventional tools and by implementing new molecular-genetic methods. Previously Dr. Kalmambetova worked for the International Committee of Red Cross Mission in Kyrgyzstan and was a part of the team working on TB in Prison Program. She also served as a laboratory specialist at the Quality Health Care Project, USAID. At the current stage, NRL has successfully implemented Whole Genome and Targeted Sequencing and is moving towards setting up the WGS as a routine diagnostic tool for detecting DR-TB cases to ensure rapid testing and proper individualized treatment of TB patients. Besides, the integration of the Quality Management System allowed the NRL to get the ISO 15189 accreditation in October 2022 by the Kyrgyz Accreditation Center, Member of ILAC.
In 2021 Dr. Kalmambetova was awarded the Honored Doctor of the Kyrgyz Republic for her invaluable input in COVID-19 response.
