On January 24 and 25, 2024, the Festival of Genomics & Biodata (FoG) at ExCeL London showcased the latest advancements in genomics and life sciences. FoG’s core mission is to accelerate the delivery of genomics to benefit patients. The largest annual life sciences event in the United Kingdom, the festival brought together more than 5000 attendees in a vibrant and collaborative setting for exploring, networking, and exchanging groundbreaking ideas. This year’s festival featured a dynamic program including over 280 speakers, 12 theaters, “the Genome Dome,” roundtable discussions, workshops, and more.

As lead sponsor of the event, Illumina conducted two keynote sessions. Patrick Tarpey, PhD, lead clinical scientist for Solid Cancer at the East Genomic Laboratory Hub at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS, led a panel discussion on the first day, exploring the “Expansive Analysis of NGS Data in Solid Cancer” and unveiling innovative approaches in genomic data analysis. The next day featured Ana-Maria Cujba, PhD, from the Wellcome Sanger Institute, who presented “Harnessing Single-Cell and Spatial Technologies for Human Cell Atlasing in Health and Disease.”

At the Illumina booth, the spotlight was on the new P4 flow cell powered by XLEAP-SBS chemistry for the NextSeq 2000 System. The Illumina team also demonstrated the tertiary analysis capabilities of the company’s Emedgene software, which can offer insights into hereditary disease variant interpretation.

The highlight of the Illumina booth this year was the captivating Lego NovaSeq X.
