Details

Comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) is a valuable tool for analyzing clinical tumor specimens. Whereas it is most often considered important for the identification of targetable alterations in advanced cancers, it is also proving useful in planning therapeutic regimens in early cancer settings, offering clinical trial enrollment and in the identification of alterations that could change a diagnosis. Integration of CGP into in-house pathology workflows requires thoughtful deliberation, but its implementation can prove very useful to the clinicians, pathologists and patients that it supports. This presentation will discuss the value of in-house CGP, offer insights into the benefits and drawbacks of incorporation, and provide information about important practical factors when considering in-house implementation of CGP.

Learning objectives
  • Understand the clinical value of Comprehensive Genomic Profiling (CGP) beyond therapeutic targeting in advanced stage cancer.
  • Discuss at least four practical considerations when determining if CGP is appropriate for a specific institution.
  • Recognize important entities within a health care system that should be involved in discussion of incorporation of in-house testing.
  • List four advantages in bringing CGP in-house.
